Who makes a good Red Ale?

I have recently had a discussion with my brother and friend about who makes a good Red Ale. I didn’t have a lot to contribute. Up until that moment I had thought I really liked Red Ales but when I truly think about it, maybe my lack of knowledge says otherwise. I basically know they are shades of amber and taste of malty sweetness and they range between 4% – 7%. Off the top of my head I could only think of three different beers to suggest, Ninkasi Believer Double Red, Nectar Ales Red Nectar and North Coast Red Seal Ale.

I have decided to look up the style and see which beers I may have tried in the past. I didn’t realize how many of these beers I had tried, enjoyed and sadly forgotten. I wasn’t aware there were so many at my fingertips at all times.

So moving forward this is now a new mission. This is a new adventure. I am looking forward to exploring the various breweries offering this style. I plan on building a “Red Portfolio” and documenting them along the way so the next time someone asks me which Red Ale I could suggest I will be able to have more than three options.

  1. I haven’t really taken the time to discover many reds either. I also often overlook them for other styles. But I like many. Just never seems to be my first choice.
